The Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike is a National Scenic Byway that runs from the VA/WV state line to Parkersburg, WV.
As you travel the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike between the upper Shenandoah Valley and the Ohio River, you'll experience exhilarating vistas of high mountains and scenic valleys. The turnpike was essential to early development and settlement of western Virginia. It was also of strategic importance for both armies during the early days of the Civil War.
The Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike Alliance (SPTA) partners with the Beverly Heritage Center in Beverly, West Virginia to maintain a visitor center and turnpike exhibits that preserve the story of this important road. Autumn hours are Thursday through Monday 11:00 to 5:00.
